Advance your degree with the recognition of credits
At UTAMED, we facilitate the process of validations between university degrees or from other educational levels so that students can optimise their training and make the most of their previous academic achievements. If you have taken courses in another university degree or in a higher education qualification, you can request the recognition of credits, which will allow you to advance in your training without the need to repeat subjects already passed.
The qualification of the recognised credits may be "Eligible" or a specific grade depending on the subject or subjects of the original qualification. You can request a credit recognition assessment without the need to enrol, which will allow you to know in advance which subjects will need to be studied.
Validating university subjects is great for those who wish to reduce their teaching load or shorten the duration of their studies. In addition, at UTAMED, the process is simple and accessible, allowing validations between university degrees or with higher education validations.
How to validate university subjects
To request the validation of previous studies, you must take the following steps:
Send a query to the UTAMED validations team to explain your academic situation through the contact form. During this first consultation, you will be advised what documentation you need to provide to evaluate your case.
Send the team the information required for the assessment of validations between university degrees or a higher education qualification.
Once the documentation has been analysed individually, we will advise you which credits can be recognized.
The information required for the assessment of the validations generally includes:
- Official academic certificate containing the courses taken, credits obtained and grades.
- Programmes of the courses taken, stamped by the home institution, to verify the equivalence of content.
- Curriculum for the home degree, in the event that recognition is requested from another university degree.
- For foreign studies, an official translation of the documentation may be required.
Limits on the recognition of credits
There are different limitations depending on the type of previous studies undertaken by the applicant:
Subjects that you have previously taken in Undergraduate Degrees will be recognised, provided that there is a clear correspondence between the content, competences and skills of the subjects you want to validate and those of the curriculum of the new degree.
- Final Degree Project or Final Master's Project credits will not be validated.
Credits can be recognised if there is a direct relationship between the course taken and the university degree.
The maximum credits to be recognised will be 25% (60 ECTS credits); this will vary depending on the specific conditions of the student.
- The equivalence criteria is based on the skills acquired and the teaching load.
Only a maximum of 15% of the total credits of the official degree can be recognised, which is equivalent to 36 credits in a degree of 240 credits.
Credits can be recognised for professional experience or non-regulated training, but with limitations established for each degree.
- The maximum number of credits recognised for professional experience will be specified in each case.
FAQs
What is the difference between credit validation and credit recognition?
Currently, validating subjects at the university and the recognition of credits are the same, it is the process by which a student can take advantage of subjects already taken in another degree or institution to reduce the teaching load of their new academic programme. How many credits can be validated?
The number of credits you can validate at UTAMED will depend on the previous studies you have completed. There are certain limitations on the recognition of credits depending on the type of qualification in question, so each case is studied individually.
